How to roll dice online
- Choose a die (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 or d100), how many of them and a modifier with the buttons, or type a roll such as
2d6+3. - Press Roll, or the Space bar or Enter anywhere outside a text field.
- You see the total and every single die. Dropped dice stay on screen, struck through, so you can check the maths.
Dice notation for tabletop games
The roller understands the notation used in D&D and other role-playing games:
d20 | one twenty-sided die |
2d6+3 | two six-sided dice plus 3 |
4d6dl1 | four d6, drop the lowest: ability scores |
2d20kh1 / 2d20kl1 | advantage / disadvantage: keep the highest / the lowest |
d%, d100 | a number from 1 to 100 |
1d8+2d6-1 | several groups and a modifier |
k alone means kh, and a bare d after the die means dl. One roll takes up to 100 dice of 2 to 1000 sides, so a d3, d7 or d30 works too.
Are the dice fair?
Every face is exactly equally likely. Each die comes from the browser’s cryptographic generator, and values that would make some faces slightly more frequent are thrown away and drawn again. The page’s self-test rolls a million d6 and checks them with a χ² test.
Questions
Can my players see the roll?
Share the link under the result, or switch to full screen for a projector or a stream. A shared roll is a record of what came up, not a proof that it was the first try.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After the first visit the page works without a connection and can be installed as an app, handy at a table with no Wi-Fi.
I only need a number, not dice.
Use the random number generator: any range, no repeats, decimals. For two options, flip a coin.
