RandomBench Coin flip

Flip a coin: heads or tails

Press the button or the Space bar and the coin decides. Every flip is a fair 50/50 from your device’s cryptographic generator, and the count of heads and tails keeps going while you play.

How to flip a coin online

  1. Press Flip the coin, or the Space bar or Enter anywhere outside a text field.
  2. The coin spins in 3D and lands on heads or tails. The result is decided before the coin starts turning; the animation only shows it.
  3. Below the coin you see how many heads and tails came up in this session and how long the current run is.

Need a decision for a group? The full-screen button leaves only the coin and the button on screen, big enough for a projector or a stream. Sound is off by default; phones give a short vibration with each flip.

Is it really 50/50?

Yes. Each flip takes one uniform random bit from your browser’s cryptographic generator (crypto.getRandomValues), never from Math.random. The page’s self-test flips a million coins and checks the split with a χ² test. A real coin is, if anything, slightly less fair: it tends to land on the side it started from a little more often.

Flip 10, 100 or 100,000 coins at once

Set the number of flips and press Flip the series. You get the number of heads and tails, the longest run and how unusual the split is. Long runs surprise people: in 100 fair flips a run of six or seven of the same side is normal. A fair coin lands more than two standard deviations from 50% in about one series in twenty.

Questions

Can I share the result?

Yes, the link under the result opens the same flip on any device. It is a record, not a proof: anyone could flip many times and share the one they liked. For a draw that people must trust, use the giveaway picker with a published fingerprint.

Does it work without the internet?

Yes. Nothing is sent anywhere, and after the first visit the page works offline. You can install it as an app from the browser menu.

What else can I decide at random?

Ask a yes or no question, roll dice, pick a random number or spin a wheel with your own options.
