The black-and-white version from the blog comics. Model sheet:
Most watermelons end up in a fruit salad. This one was cut in half, given a needle and told to measure things. The rind became the dial, the seeds became the scale, and the result has been checking phones and tablets ever since: the screen pixel by pixel, the touch, the speakers, the sensors, the battery, the camera, GPS and NFC.
It is at its best right before you buy a used phone. The watermelon does not care what the seller says; it cares whether the spot in the corner is really “just dust”. Everything runs in the browser, nothing gets installed, and the results stay on the device unless you share them yourself.
In the comics it is the optimist of the bench: the first to cheer and the first to sweat when a browser opens its fortieth tab. For its induction the face moved a little to the left, so its grin stops bumping into the hub of the needle.
